Paca Facts

Alpacas are Camelids- “cousins” to camels, llamas, vicuñas and guanacos.

There are 2 types of Alpacas, Huacaya (wha-ki-ya) and the Suri. The huacaya are known for their fluffy teddy bear looks where the suri have the “rug” look with the long, twisted locks.

~ Where do Alpacas come from? Originally from the high mountains of Peru, Chili and Bolivia.

~ What do they eat? Grass, hay and a small amount of grain and of course, fresh water.

~ Do Alpacas Spit? They are members of the Camelid family remember, but they reserve their spit for each other, like someone hogging the food or in each other’s way. They rarely spit at people.
